Formal dining area walls tend to be colored in dark hues and could have architectural features such as wainscoting and crown molding finished in dark spots. Removing paneling and molding may well not be cost‐effective, but paint is. Choose colors that encourage a casual, inviting mood. Shades of white permit the room's other elements to stick out. Pastel hues are restful, while natural shades such as beige and grey complement any design style. Banish formal draperies and only floaty sheers or simple Roman or matchstick shades.
Match the types of fabric you decide to the design of the room. For instance, if your room is formal and contemporary, consider luxurious fabric like toile or damask. When you have a national country rustic, casual dining area, cotton or linen would suffice.
